Massachusetts Approved Firearms Rosters

Unlike some states, MA Gun dealers are highly regulated on which specific firearms they can lawfully transfer to Licensed Citizens or even Police Officers! We’ll strive to keep this page updated with the latest lists, but the newest rosters should always be available at the MA Government Website here: https://www.mass.gov/lists/approved-firearms-rosters . Please note that this is a companion post to our article on H.4885, the state’s latest major rewrite of Firearms laws. We recommend you read that as well, if you are unfamiliar with the changes.

Approved Firearms Roster

Updated February 2025

This typically gets updated quarterly, this is the major list that we work with when deciding what we can sell to individuals. While this list looks pretty nice, if the guns don’t also pass the Attorney General’s 940 CMR 16.00: Handgun Sales regulations, we can’t transfer complete firearms to civilians. Active and Retired Duty police officers can purchase off this list regardless of the AG Regs.

Formal Target Shooting Firearms Roster

Updated June 2024

Not updated as much as the primary list, here is where you’ll find the only new Colt handguns available.

Olympic Competition Firearms Roster

Updated May 2018

This has not been updated in quite some time, but that’s what we need to work with, and Olympic guns don’t change much.

940 CMR 16.00: Handgun sales

Updated February 19, 1999

The dreaded Attorney General Regulations. This is why new complete Glock Gen 3, 4, 5, etc handguns are not sell-able by MA Firearm retailers even though they appear on the primary Approved Firearms Roster.

These aren’t likely to change for a while, but the link to the MA Government website is here: https://www.mass.gov/regulations/940-CMR-1600-handgun-sales
